Matching Grant

God did it!!! We got a matching grant! I was shocked when we got the email. I didn't think we would get a grant at all. After looking at J's income last year I didn't think anyone would give us one. Although this year is much lower than last year because he isn't in a salary position now. Anyway, I am so thankful for this possibility. We received the grant from Hand in Hand Christian Adoption, Inc. (www.handinhandadopt.org)
They will be matching dollar for dollar up to $3500 for a possible total of $7,000. That is about half of what is outstanding on our adoption whenever God gives us a baby.  

I have really been struggling with how we would pay for this adoption. I really didn't want to get a loan for $15k. I knew God would provide, but I had a hard time believing how. Well this is how he is providing for some of it. We have some friends who have been waiting to do a fundraiser for us and now we can start planning it!  I know we may also need to send out letters to family and friends depending on how much the fundraiser brings in.  

I tend to get discouraged when I think about how much we have to pay to be able to give a child a family when those who can have a child biologically can pay as little as nothing depending on insurance. The cost of adoption has risen and continues to blow my mind how much people will pay for a child. I will not pay a ridiculous amount. We have a budget of $20K and that is really low for an adoption in this day and age. I can't justify paying over $25K, which I probably wouldn't do anyway.

Last Monday 12/14 we received a call that we were not chosen again for a baby. We were devastated. This was the 3rd time in 2 years. We thought for sure we would be picked this time. Post Surgery Day 2

I haven't kept this blog up as much as I was hoping while we are in the ICU. It has been pretty uneventful. Calvin has been stable and progressing well. We are still in ICU and hopefully by next week will be out of here. Calvin went into surgery for a PA band on Monday. This was done to slow the blood flow to the lungs. He has extra going in there due to his heart condition and he needed this surgery to slow everything down. The surgery went well & there were no complications. Which is great and we know it is all because God allowed us to have amazing surgeons. I about cried when the surgeon came into tell us everything went well & there were no complications. I was so joyful for what God has been doing it. God has allowed everything so far to be smooth and easy going for Calvin.
